Christmas!

Impossible to describe the suffering

from lack of family

the emptiness

worst day of the year

when all friends abandon

or is it?

I remember the day I shopped after a week of midwifery

the carols and the longing

knowing nobody would be there

the walk home another year

crying pitifully as I walked such a long way

no buses

couldn’t get a taxi

Christmas Eve — after long hard hospital work

Yet a friend had given me a cheap tv and a very funny Italian movie was on

Another friend seeing me cry as I entered my home

began praying each Christmas

and every Christmas from then on I was rescued

This year it’s

My tulips guy (see Tulips poem), and family

and in the New Year my own son and family

I had to learn about a world family who always provide

And that even if it’s just one or two people

It is always enough
