Step 1: Select Your Aesthetic
A color scheme is another key component that should be kept in mind, find pieces that have similar colors and tones. Don’t be afraid to utilize all types of materials, such as artwork, sculptures, and photos. When creating a gallery wall, it should be reflective of you and your style.
Step 2: Lay Everything Out
Before you pick up your hammer and nails, lay out your gallery wall pieces on the floor. Start with a centerpiece and build out from there. While planning, consider spacing out similar pieces. You will want to have am even mix of sculptural and framed artwork.
Step 3: Do a Dry-Run
Once you are happy with the layout of your gallery, mock it up with paper. Using kraft or tissue paper, trace your frames and tape the trimmed pieces to the wall. Make sure you are considering the space and the proportion of art to the size of the space. This may seem like an extra step, but it will help prevent any unwanted nail holes.
Step 4: Get to Hanging
With your plan set in place, you can now start my favorite part, hanging your pieces up. Using the mock gallery as a guide, carefully hammer the nails into the wall and tear away your placeholders. With a little work and careful planning, you will soon have a beautiful wall gallery to admire.
