Stop Stealing My Ideas for Stories

Yes, I’m talking to you!

Not once. Not twice. Three times in the past few weeks I have been either scrolling through my feed here or over at Vocal Media and I’m seeing stories written about subjects that are on my list to write about.

How dare you!

It started with Feedium’s J.J. Pryor writing about a word I had just discovered and instantly had fallen in love with.

Paraprosdokian.

Isn’t it just magical? It sounds so distinctive and refined.

What the heck is a paraprosdokian you may ask? It is the construction of a sentence where the end part is an unexpected twist from the beginning. It is a technique in writing often used by comedians to create the classic ‘one-liner’ that makes their fame and fortune.

Now, I wasn’t going to even attempt to write a paraprosdokian because I am not a comedian nor that clever. In fact, I have no idea what I was going to write about, but that is beside the point. It was on my list of topics and my brain does have a funny way of coming up with brilliant ideas with time.

Well done J.J Pryor for coming up with some paraprosdokians — and your great article that exceeded whatever I was going to pen.

A couple of days ago, a writer over at Vocal Media wrote about his experience giving blood. I am ashamed to say that I had never given blood until this year. My excuse in my younger years that I was underweight.
