Milwaukee vs Pittsburgh Predictions

The Milwaukee Brewers (42–38) and Pittsburgh Pirates (37–42) will faceoff in the PNC Park stadium on Friday 6/30/2023 @ 7:05pm EST for the first game of their three-game series. Freddy Peralta (5–7, 4.65 ERA) is slated to start on the mound for Milwaukee, while the Pirates will counter with Osvaldo Bido (0–1, 3.45 ERA). The last 10 meetings between these two teams has been even with a 5–5 split, leaving the game unpredictable this time around. Milwaukee is the betting favorite with the opening line set at -141 and so far the line has remained unmoved. This preview was written before the Thursday game was played.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to maintain their momentum after two consecutive wins following a two-game losing streak. In their past six games, they have logged four wins. Pittsburgh’s offense is averaging 4.16 runs per game and is 19th in the league with a .240 batting average and an 18th place .317 OBP, and 24th in slugging percentage at .389. Bryan Reynolds has the team’s highest batting average at .279, while Jack Suwinski leads the lead in home runs with 16 and Carlos Santana in RBIs with 41. On the pitching side, the Pirates have been struggling, yielding 4.58 runs per game and with a .254 opponent batting average, good for 23rd in the league. Their ERA stands at 4.24, ranking them 78th and WHIP is 1.38, which is 24th. In his last start, Bido took a loss after giving up nine hits and two runs in 5.2 innings against the Miami Marlins. The Pirates are hoping for another impressive performance from Bido if they want to succeed against the Brewers.

They have won four of their last six games and will look to keep the momentum going as they face the Pirates tonight. If successful, this will bring their win total to five in their last seven games and put them in lead of the NL Central.

Leading the team in the batter’s box is reigning MVP, Christian Yelich, with a batting average of .277. Not far behind him is Willy Adames, with 12 home runs leading the team, and Brian Anderson, with 36 RBIs. These two have been the cornerstone of the team’s offensive success so far.

On the pitching side, Milwaukee has performed at a consistently solid rate. They are giving up 4.29 runs per game, with opponents having a .239 batting average against them — good for eighth in the league. Furthermore, the team’s 4.02 ERA and 1.26 WHIP are both ranked 14th and 13th respectively in the league.

Tonight’s matchup will be an interesting one, as Zach Davies will look to take the bit for the Brewers. Davies coming off a strong performance in his last game, a 4–2 loss to the Cleveland Indians. He gave up four hits and three runs in five innings in an otherwise solid outing. If the Brewers want the win, he’ll have to match his performance from his last game and give the team a quality start. With the offensive firepower of Yelich, Adames, and Anderson, combined with strong defense throughout the year, the Brewers are in a great spot to take the victory and move up in the NL Central.

Beer Makers Eric Sogard has a .265 batting average, 14 runs and 4 homers.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to keep their momentum going after two consecutive wins and are currently ranked #28 in the power rankings. Their offense is ranked #22 in the league, averaging 4.16 runs per game, while their defense is ranked #18, giving up 4.58 runs per game. Their .240 batting average is ranked 19th in the league, and their .317 on-base percentage is 18th, and their .389 slugging percentage is 24th. Bryan Reynolds leads Pittsburgh with a .279 batting average, and Jack Suwinski leads the team with 16 home runs, while Carlos Santana leads the team with 41 RBI. However, their pitching has not been good, giving up an average of 4.58 runs per game, with opponents batting a .254 average against them, which is 23rd in the league. Their 4.24 ERA is 78th, while their 1.38 WHIP is 24th.

The Brewers have a tough matchup against the Pirates, as their overall record is 38–42. Milwaukee went 0–3 in their last 3 matchups against the Pirates. Eric Sogard has a batting average of .265, 14 runs, and 4 home runs, leading the team on offense. Pittsburgh will be looking to get another solid start from Bido, who had a 4–3 loss against the Miami Marlins after giving up nine hits and two runs in 5.2 innings. The Pirates will hope to make the most of their experience and momentum to secure the fourth win in their last six games if they want to win this matchup against the Brewers.
