An Interview with NOIA Network Quant developer

What made you choose NOIA Network as your next project to work with?

The ever increasing online content volume and velocity shows the ongoing demand for CDN-like services. I have fully embraced the challenging idea of making such service decentralized. As a content consumer, I have experienced the unstoppable proliferation of online content, especially that created by other consumers. CDN service are what makes the consumption of such data possible and smooth. Ultimately, I wanted to be on both sides of the equation. The strong team at NOIA was yet another decisive factor.

Could you elaborate more on your role here at NOIA? What are your main goals and tasks?

My primary task is to make all CDN components — such as caching, routing, node scoring, etc. — function optimally based on actual data. While such data is not available yet, I am proactively designing these features and algorithms in such a way, that they can be adjusted later.

How can machine learning improve the NOIA Network? How important is it?

Machine learning will help us to make informed decisions on how to manage the network in terms of content scaling and routing in order to give the best possible user experience. Additionally, data mining will help us to detect fraud and avoid attacks from malicious nodes. Hence, I think a modern CDN cannot function without machine learning as a layer on top of regular CDN services. It can not only make the whole content delivery service better, but also help us to manage resources more effectively, forecast content popularity, and increase system safety.

What’s your view on the current Content Delivery Network industry? Is it efficient? Is it well-equipped to tackle the problems of the future?

I think it is good enough to satisfy the current demand. Although, my opinion might be biased, because I live in a country with good internet connection. However, the demand is growing fast. Whereas, the requirements for the quality and features of the content delivery service are becoming more pronounced: live streams, 4K resolution becoming new standard, customization of the content, shift to mobile platforms, embedded ads, etc. As a result, we need new and modern solutions for the future, as simply adding more PoPs will not solve all the problems.

What’s the best outcome/feature of NOIA Network in your opinion?

Tapping into the unused potential at the edge of the internet and consequently being able to pay for node’s internet/content subscription bills. Content and internet effectively becomes free for consumers who are running the NOIA node application.

Where do you see NOIA Network in 3–5 years time?

I see it becoming a Decentralised Autonomous Organization, tackling new challenges of content delivery, and in general making the internet more effective and a nicer place to be.
